Sunday~Funday: Yummy Mummies: Sunday 6th March

February 22, 2016 admin
Sunday_Funday_6th-March.jpg

Its back this weekend.. SHORT VERSION:

Back yet again for another mind altering visit to the underbelly of every ultimate weekend SUNDAY~FUNDAY is your go-to Sunday night queer performance and dress-up dance party at VFD. For those in search of a final moment to saver the weekend SUNDAY~FUNDAY brings the big toys out for one final play with contagiously danceable music, an infamous late-night drag show, ice-breaker/hang-over games, snazzy drinks, ambitious party and costume themes and always a double dose of fun! This time round it's Mother's Day, so Dress like your Mum and Dance like your Dad, thems the rules! 7:00PM-LATE, £5 on the door Message Maxi More for guestlist LONG VERSION

(Sounds of church-bells and birdsong)

Mothering Sunday is a holiday celebrated by Catholic and Protestant Christians in some parts of Europe. It falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter.

During the sixteenth century, people returned to their mother church, the main church or cathedral of the area, for a service to be held on Laetare Sunday. In later times, Mothering Sunday became a day when domestic servants were given a day off to visit their “mother church”, usually with their own mothers and other family members. It was often the only time that whole families could gather together, since on other days they were prevented by conflicting working hours, and servants were not given free days on other occasions. Mother’s Day celebrations take place in almost every culture and country upon the planet, and each have their own traits and customs to celebrate the power, strength and generosity of Mothers.

Taking inspiration from by-gone times, as well as contemporary contextual influences, SUNDAY~FUNDAY is throwing the MOTHER of all parties to celebrate mothers, the mother in all of us and the Mother Church of VFD. Maxi More and her friends invite you into our Mother Church, VFD, to pay respect to the goddesses that protect queer space and shelter each and every creature that visits her.

We also invite you to become Mother’s for the evening, as we all have maternal energy within us that can be utilised to nurture creativity and spread positivity. Come dressed as the ultimate Yummy Mummy, complete with elaborately named sprogs, enormous frappaccinos, fake-furr gillet and uggs. Or perhaps you’d like to become an expectant mother, glowing skin and “baby-on-board” broached?

The night will include the ultimate Mother’s-Day playlist, perfect for reverberating maternal energy out into the universe. Our now infamous late-night drag show will bring together Mother’s of all kind, from the irresponsible, the impossible, even the celestial Mother her self may make an appearance. Yummy Mummy refreshments and pop-up Belsize Park style café will accommodate any gaggle of Mums who may want to swap tips on the best eco friendly recycled yak hair nappies, and macro-biotic Himalayan rice crackers. Also included: try before you buy Baby-Bumps and pre-natal yoga classes, not to mention all our usual games and antics.

So get Dad to look after the kids, or just bring them along too, and get into the yummy Mummy vibe, for a night of maternal mayhem.

SUNDAY~FUNDAY: Leap-Day Mirror-World Carnival: Sunday 28th February

February 15, 2016 admin
Sunday-Funday-28th-feb.jpeg

Back again for another mind altering visit to the underbelly of every ultimate weekend SUNDAY~FUNDAY is your go-to Sunday night queer performance and dress-up dance party at Vogue Fabrics Dalston.

9:00PM-LATE £5 on the door Message Maxi More for guestlist

LONG VERSION: ............................................................................................................. leap year n. 1. A year in the Gregorian calendar having 366 days, with the extra day, February 29, intercalated to compensate for the quarter-day difference between an ordinary year and the astronomical year. 2. An intercalary year in a calendar. .............................................................................................................

For one night only SUNDAY~FUNDAY celebrates the occurrence of a magical moment that happens but once every four years, a mysterious and momentous day to celebrate without need for patriotism, territorialism or clouded by religious murkiness. Leap into our leap-day party and live out your alternate desires.

Maxi More and her fabulous friends will be joined by Project Rage Queen, a Los Angeles-based collective of radical queer multi-media artists, as well as a host of other local performance artists and party goers. Together they will equip you with all you need for your journey and assist you in creating and becoming a celebration, transitioning through the normative surface, allowing you to be reborn the other side.

In one special evening we acknowledge and exalt the divine passage our mother earth is making around our sun, whilst she too dances towards her unstoppable destiny on a road we can barely understand, but have grown to know as "time". For it is upon this very eve, that we are gifted a bonus day. A leap-day that allows us all to leap from the normal and drab to the supernatural and carnivalesque.

It is this night that disrupts all others, it blurs out all expected and previous existences. Everything we took as everlasting and unchanging is now gone and for a few short hours, we live beyond our previous selves, on the other side.

MIRROR~WORLD

SUNDAY~FUNDAY invites all 0thers and underlings into the belly of VFD on this special evening to participate in this astronomical carnival and give a big, fabulous and FUN welcome to this day like no other. Come and dance yourselves into a frenzy, allow pioneering performers to transport you into a fantasy, mingle amongst curious, and queer creatures, and fill yourself up to the brim with FUN.

You are encouraged most importantly to have FUN: come dressed as yourself in a parallel dimension, equipped with fantastical time-travelling tools. Turn yourself inside out, wear your hat on your feet and shoes on your head. Learn to talk backwards. Sdrawkcab klat ot nrael!!!

Entry price is a mere £5, which covers the travel costs of going through to the other side and returning safely. Magical drinks specials will be on offer as well as light refreshments and heavy entertainment, all night long!

ALTERNATIVE VERSION

SUNDAY~FUNDAY was born from a desire to have a fun, queer-centric Sunday night parties in Dalston. Bored and frustrated by mass-consumed weekend and holiday culture, SUNDAY~FUNDAY uses imaginative and fantastical themes to thinly veil our true desire to simply create a queer space, open to all to come and celebrate life and all its wonderful expressions. If you’d like to get involved, whether to perform, DJ, help decorate the space, take pictures or anything, we would love you to get in touch with us! Running for the last six months at Vogue Fabrics Dalston, SUNDAY~FUNDAY happens intermittently, turning your glum Sunday nights into FUN and unexpected adventures.
