Nesian Punx #2 - a night of Pasifika POC Punk

8pm to 11pm, doors open at 7:45pm

Tickets £6 in advance (book here) or £8 on the door

Nesian Punx #2

A night of Pasifika – poc punk raising money for Free West Papua Campaign.

Since the first days of Indonesian colonial occupation in 1963, the people and land of West Papua have been under relentless attack. Over 500,000 West Papuan civilians have been killed by Indonesia’s military.

Racism and discrimination are a daily reality and basic human rights including freedom of speech are outlawed. The Indonesian Government have banned international media and human rights organisations from operating in West Papua, ensuring that news about what is happening rarely reaches the outside world.

The Free West Papua Campaign was launched in 2004, led by Benny Wenda – an exiled West Papuan independence leader and Chairman of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP).

The Free West Papua Campaign is bringing the story of West Papua to the world and campaigning for freedom and justice in West Papua. It is time to end the violence of the last 50 years and give West Papuans the freedom to decide their own future.

With the return of the mighty Half/Time- māori led punk band from Aotearoa back in London on their UK tour and lairy London punx -GRUNT and the wider diaspora community are teaming up to raise monies for our West Papuan brothers and sisters.

Talks from Free West Papua Campaign and Boycott for West Papua and a special performance from The Lani Singers - traditional West Papuan folk band playing songs rooted in resistance and celebrating Papuan culture (tbc)

Band merch/Prints/Stickers/Patches up for grabs!

BANDS

Half/Time - are a Māori post-punk band hailing from Aotearoa (so-called
New Zealand) - they're loud, angry and making change through music.
Through visceral and vulnerable waiata (songs) they invite audiences to
engage and learn about Aotearoa New Zealand's colonised past, its
present and hopes for its future. These are unsanitized, undiluted
histories that are delivered without apology, encompassing the personal
and political, amplifying the ancestral echoes of te ao Māori (the Māori
world) and giving voice to the injustices faced by indigenous
communities today. FFO Dead Pioneers, Idles, Pixies, The Muslims and Big
Brave.

GRUNT - Lairy three piece London punx. Drums bass n vocals but not
techno... brown queer and fvcking tired. ''Raw self-righteous feminist
punk, reminiscent of the burgeoning 70's punk scene'' - Laviea Thomas
for Decolonise Fest.

Hemi Hemingway - With the rock’n’roll panache of a dive bar matador and the emotional force of a knife in the guts, Hemi Hemingway makes music that thrills, spills and breaks hearts. The effortlessly slick New Zealand star has a connoisseur’s ear for the finest parts of musical history, sweeping 60s rock, 50s sheen and 80s romanticism into the present day, refurbishing and refashioning them into something new and fresh. At home in the spotlight, he’s a showman in the best troubadour traditions, but one with real depth, showcasing swagger and vulnerability in equal measure.

The Lani Singers - from the Baliem Valley in the remote central highland
region of West Papua in the south-west Pacific, play songs that are
rooted in the sacred rituals of the Lani tribe. Formed in UK 2004 as a
way of celebrating and preserving Papuan culture – the Indonesian regime
have outlawed traditional music and cultural practices in West Papua.
The band have played at music festivals in the UK including Glastonbury,
Musicport, Port Eliot, the Mayor of London’s Thames Festival and
Celebrating Sanctuary. They have also performed live sessions on the
‘World Routes’ show on BBC Radio 3 and on DJ Ritu’s ‘A World In London’
show on BBC Radio London.

Queer Noise

Queer Noise is back babes!!

Join us on Thursday 26th March  for an incredible line up of mega talented poets, musicians and performers bringing you simultaneously silly and sensitive explorations of queer community, identity, and relationships

We've missed you and we know you've missed us too, so get yourself down to VFDalston for an evening of queer gorgeousness.

Doors at 7pm

Performance start at 7:30pm you don't wanna miss a single second.

Featuring:  Kia Matanky-Becker, Grace Quigley, Leah Cleaver and Die Lemma!

Kia Matanky-Becker

Kia is a very serious poet who definetly doesnt dream of being a comedian.  An over-sharer and attention seeker, get ready for tales of dyke drama, late nights and the people they fell in love with on the bus this morning.

Recent performances include  Glastonbury 2025, Summer in the Ditch for Shoreditch Town Hall and Out Of Frame Dulwich Picture Gallery for LGBTQ+ History Month.

Grace Quigley

Grace makes performance and theatre work using cabaret, drag and text. She is currently developing a new show, On Our Backs.

A messy, hedonistic club world where Dilly pines after Kitten—her fellow dancer/ mother figure—while chasing glamour to cover life’s rot and dreaming of motherhood though her pussy's already sore. Expect alternative cabaret, spectacle on a budget, and strange lipsyncs to your favourite divas.

Leah Cleaver

Leah is an artist and singer based in East London. After first making music as part of collective ZEBEDE, she's now carving out her own alt pop sound, shaped by the friends and scene around her. Leah is co-founder of U Gd, Girl? a community for women and non-binary babes who come together for intimate talking circles and "werkshops" in London.
Leah's music speaks to people who move through life with curiosity and who love discovering music that catches them a bit off guard. Her songs are an expression of black queer joy, and are for those who dance late into the night with their friends, love big bass lines and honest lyrics and those who see love and beauty in all its different forms

Die Lemma

Die Lemma is a trans femme artist of German and Ethiopian heritage, blending the worlds of music and drag.
Her vocal performances pay homage to black music and old cabaret. Situated in the trans body, they disrupt prescriptive ideas of gender. In its place, she weaves reimagined possibilities using costume, craft and paint. Die Lemma regularly works all around London and beyond in queer venues and nightclubs but her work has also taken her to venues such as the National Theatre, Southbank Center, Barbican, the Roundhouse, Glastonbury Festival and the Box. She recently won the drag competition Top of the slops Allstars and recently sold out her first Drag theatre show, Peach, Shit & Die, with collaborator Masc Peach

Hub 2.0 Fundraiser Night

2025 has been a mess, but when things get tough, we get tougher. Fascism is on the rise and so we are beefing up our capacity to support community-building and community responses to the rise in the right and the rollback of our own rights - to protest, to oppose genocide, to earn a living wage and be able to take sick or parental leave... and to use the damn toilet.

The Hub has now moved to 395 Cambridge Heath Road, in combination with The People's Letters, where we have opened a shared space for harm reduction, radical literature and collective care, run by and for our communities: sex workers, queer and trans people, migrants, people who use drugs and all those pushed to the margins and excluded from public space.

We are long overdue some additional floorspace which we are excited to put to good use - but we also need to be able to adequately furnish and resource this scale-up, so we are calling on you to help us generate some funds. Come celebrate the move with us on a fun night out that also sustains the movement!

What to expect:

  • Movement: A lot of dancing, and a lot of good music - DJs TBD

  • Connection: Come learn about the important work that our groups are doing to keep our people safe, and how we’re fighting to change laws

  • Activities: We will have a few activities and performances for you to check out when you are taking a break from the dance floor, TBC - watch this space

FRÉDÉRIC ACQUAVIVA "RECORDS, ARTIST BOOKS & BOOKS ON ARTISTS" LORÉ LIXENBERG "PRÊT-A-CHANTER"

LA PLAQUE TOURNANTE (composers and sound artists FRÉDÉRIC ACQUAVIVA and LORÉ LIXENBERG) were delighted to present every first Saturday of the month
(from April 5 to Dec 6) a series of 9 exhibitions and events at THE OUTSIDERS GALLERY in London, after their initial location in Berlin-Neukölln.
This event marks the end of this series (hello, bonjour) of LA PLAQUE TOURNANTE in this space. We thank all of the people that didn't come. We don't like you anyway.

You are not interested in anything but scrolling on your smartphone and making selfies of your twat face. Anyway, you can't even read this text, so who cares.

For those of you who are still reading this and seeking for what Dick Higgins called "something else" and interested in the works of others, you are welcome to discover:
FRÉDÉRIC ACQUAVIVA (born somewhere, sometime ago).
"I know some people prefer SPOTIFY - sponsors of the military industrial complex - and have maybe never encountered some physical records (CDs, fake vinyls, QR-Code editions, cassettes, USB, hybrids, artist books) but these are some of the works I have published since 1994. On the walls. Up to your arse. You don't want them? Even better!

On the wall opposite, I have displayed books I've written on other artists, because I believe an artist should not only be interested in their own belly button".

PRÊT À CHANTER TM – The Café

LORÉ LIXENBERG, who recently was awarded the John Cage Award for Contemporary Performance, will present at 5PM her
of The VOICE PARTY. You are welcome to attend PRÊT À CHANTER TM, the café where nobody speaks. In a post linguistic society where language has collapsed, speech is antisocial.
Speech is toxic. Speech is banned. Sound has taken over. For one hour, everyone, barstaff, guests, pets, communicate only through sound: humming, yodelling, groaning, whistling, barking. PRICES ARE SET BY CREATIVITY. Meaning is optional. Participants: anyone brave enough to order a drink. Genre: post-internet, post-cyborg, post-language, real-time opera. No speaking in the toilets. The anti-speak detector is listening.

MEET FRÉDÉRIC ACQUAVIVA FROM NOON TO 5PM MEET AND SING WITH LORÉ LIXENBERG FROM 5PM TO 6PM

Clothing Pop Up

Donations appreciated

To support a member of the VFD Family

Two years ago after experiencing a transphobic incident on their doorsteps and a lack of front line service support, one of our community members' resilience and capacity were deeply affected. The past two years have been a long and difficult journey of recovery and rebuilding from the ground up.

In that time, they've worked tirelessly to manage outstanding debts, sign up for benefits, go through assessments, and access essential healthcare.

Now, with a dedicated case worker and a supportive team, they're finally starting to find their footing again.

We're asking for your help, we're looking to host a clothing fundraiser at our Outsider's Gallery on the 15th November 12pm - 6pm, free entry.

We are asking the community to donate clothes which will be sold to raise funds.

Fashion has always been a real source of joy and self-expression for them.

Every bit of support helps, whether through donations, buying an item of clothing, sharing this message, or offering encouragement.

Two years of rebuilding, beginning to function again. With our help, they can thrive.

Please drop your donations to VFD

Outsider's Gallery /64 Stoke Newington

Road / N16 7XB.

We are here Tuesday till Friday, 10am to 6pm.

Our number is 02071268462 or DM us to confirm times to drop donations.

We are looking for clothing only and no housewares.

Love,

VFD

ONE MORE DAYTIME: 1997

We are BACK - as is Diana! Its 1997 and Girl Power is everywhere! The Spice Girls dominate the charts, Louise, Dannii Minogue and Gina G fly the flag for the pop girls. Katrina and The Waves won Eurovision, Janet Jackson returned and All Saints, Natalie Imbruglia and Shola Ama launched.

The boys were busy too though with Backstreet Boys, 911, Boyzone, Hanson, North & South, No Mercy and Five all making the top 10. Robbie Williams launched his solo career proper, Kavana adorned bedroom walls and Will Smith was the man in black. Not content with the charts being full of pure pop, Texas, Republica and No Doubt added some guitars to the mix. 1997 also saw HUGE dance anthems from Gala (and her trombelese), Ultra Nate and Dario G - not to mention the trio of hits from Sash! And just as the year was ending, we said hello to bright new things Steps and Aqua!

We’ll be playing the A list popstars from 1997 along with B listers like Michelle Gayle, Lisa Stansfield and Skunk Anansie along with loads of other pop and dance hits from 1997. Immerse yourself with memorabilia galore from 1997 adorning our walls including our much loved chart wall and don't forget to pay your respects to Diana, Princess of Wales in the memorial book… Arr Di might just make an appearance on the day!

Expect loads of forgotten gems you're unlikely to hear anywhere else (from Jimmy Ray to The Course and Clock). Our Bargain Bin first hour of 1997’s pop flops (from Mary Kiani to Newton and **whisper ** Kylie Minogue - yes it was that year) kicks the night off as usual from 9pm.
